About Our Hospital
Kindred Hospital Greensboro is a 124-bed long-term acute care hospital located off I-40/85 at exit 126 (Martin Luther King Highway) or just off I-29. We provide specialized care to pulmonary and ventilator-dependent patients who are in need of extended treatment that short-term acute care hospitals are not equipped to provide. We also serve patients with other system failures or those who need a long rehabilitation process. Our focused treatment results in a very high success rate of weaning patients off the ventilator. Because we are the only hospital in the region capable of providing this highly focused care, we have a partnership with over 100 hospitals throughout the Carolinas and Virginia.
Our hospital is licensed for 124 beds -- 101 are hospital (acute) and 23 are long-term care. The units, their capacity and function are outlined below:
Our Intensive Care Unit contains six beds and functions as an entry unit for patients being transferred from other referring hospital ICUs. Also serves patients who are on other units who develop critical conditions requiring specific monitoring.
Our 4 West Critical Care Step-Down Unit contains 24 beds and functions as a step-down unit to our ICU. Maintains 12 telemetry beds. Primary function is aggressive diagnostic evaluation and weaning strategies.
Our 3 East contains 30 beds and functions as a medical-surgical unit. Final weaning is performed on this unit. Most patients are ventilator-dependent or have been and are in various stages of weaning and/or other lower level respiratory care support in anticipation of discharge either to home or a lower level of care.
Our 3 West contains 23 beds and functions primarily as the only long-term care unit. Most patients are ventilator-dependent. However, some non-vented long-term care is provided for other types of respiratory conditions or geriatric disease processes. Limited IV therapy can be provided on this unit.
Our 2nd Floor Medical Surgical is a 41-bed medical-surgical unit. Like the 3 East unit, final weaning may also be performed on this unit; however, this unit is used to care for shorter-term typical medical or surgical patients who are non-vented. This unit offers a unique opportunity to learn respiratory care and gain experience.
Surgical Services contains a two-bed preoperative holding/procedure suite, one operative suite, and a two-bed postanesthesia care unit. Various procedures are performed here including Endoscopy, General Surgery, Podiatry and Urology. Inpatients as well as outpatients are served by this department.
PACU contains room for two-patient monitoring in the recovery phase. Typical staffing is two RNs and one RT. The staff is responsible for obtaining and placing patients in the holding area.
Transport Team functions as an out-of-facility transport service and is used to transport ventilator-dependent or critically ill patients in and out of the facility. Typical staffing is one RN and one RT.
